JVC Jazz Festival & LPR present: Carl Craig presents Tribe (Marcus Belgrave, Phil Ranelin, Wendell Harrison)
Detroit's legendary 1970s Jazz Collective TRIBE makes their long overdue NEW YORK DEBUT appearance at this years JVC JAZZ FESTIVAL. The band featuring headline players - trumpeter MARCUS BELGRAVE (acclaimed as one of the best trumpeters in the world by Wynton Marsalis), reed player WENDELL HARRISON and Trombonist PHILLIP RANELIN have played with a huge range of the true greats in Jazz from Mingus to Geri Allen.
Along with drummer DOUG HAMMOND the four original and founding members of the TRIBE collective (www.myspace.com/tribedetroit) recently joined forces with respected Detroit producer CARL CRAIG to produce a new album which will be released on September 30th 2008. The album (and band for this gig) features a host of talented younger players including people like drummer KARRIEM RIGGINS (known for his collaborations with J Dilla), keyboardist AMP FIDDLER (known for his soul albums), Guitarist JOHN ARNOLD (known for electronica) and keyboardist KELVIN SHOLAR amongst others.
This is the first ever LIVE SHOW for the collective showcasing the new album which will feature classic TRIBE compositions like "Vibes From The Tribe" as well as newer material. Following the live show Carl Craig will be performing a special DJ set.
