"Khlebnikov & Beyond" An Evening of Story, Science & Song w/ Danny Michel, Rob Carli & Col. Chris Hadfield
After performing "Khlebnikov" with orchestras across Canada, Danny Michel, Rob Carli & Col. Chris Hadfield finally bring "Khlebnikov" home to Kitchener-Waterloo. KW is where both Danny & Rob grew up and began their musical careers, where Chris studied, got married, owned a home, and where he now serves as a Professor at the University of Waterloo. So we think it's safe to assume it will definitely be a special evening. Join us and hear the award-winning "Khlebnikov", an album written on an 18-day expedition through the Canadian High Arctic, performed in its entirety with a chamber orchestra. Plus a chat / Q&A with Canadian astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield, other songs, stories, photos and more!
"Khlebnikov", (possibly the most northern album ever created/above 80 degrees) was recorded aboard the legendary Soviet-era Russian ice-breaker, Kapitan Khlebnikov, during an 18-day arctic expedition through the northwest passage. The project began when Danny was invited to join Generator Arctic by Chris Hadfield, who hand-picked a small group of scientists, photographers, writers and musicians to capture a unique perspective of the north.
Danny wrote and recorded the entire album aboard The Khlebnikov in cabin 712. Once home, Danny's recordings were arranged for brass and strings by childhood pal & now renowned film composer Rob Carli. The result is a suite of atmospheric and haunting songs about the Arctic, our planet and our place in it. Danny, Chris & Rob have been performing "Khlebnikov" with orchestras across Canada, and the album recently earned them two Canadian Folk Music Awards. We hope you will join us on this special evening
