A Tribute to Joni Mitchell's Jazz
CELEBRATING JONI'S 75TH BIRTHDAY! In the main theater at the Edmond Town Hall. This show has sold out twice - purchase tickets in advance! Attendees are invited to record comments to a video e-greeting birthday card for Joni. COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS FOR ACTIVE SERVICE MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES AVAILABLE THROUGH VetTix.
Joni's photos and paintings create a beautiful backdrop on the movie screen. The 7-member group plays hits from Joni Mitchell's critically acclaimed jazz albums: Court & Spark, Shadows & Light, Hejira, Miles of Aisles, Hissing of Summer Lawns. Featuring Leslie Ballard (vocals, flute), Steve Zerlin (bass), Roger Post (drums), Matt Spencer (percussion), George Lesiw (guitar), Steve Moran (sax), and Christian Martirano (keyboards).
All proceeds donated to Edmond Town Hall Restoration. Wine & Beer Bar will open AT 7PM. Concession stand will be open.
This is a tribute to a premier songwriter, guitarist, singer, and producer. Joni's name appears on many lists of superlatives: Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, 100 Greatest Guitarists, 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.
Joni Mitchell crossed the bridge from folk diva to jazz artist easily, hiring Tom Scott and the LA Express for her tour and Grammy-winning album "Miles of Aisles." Next, touring and recording with Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, Don Alias, Wayne Shorter, Peter Erskine. She collaborated with jazz legend Charles Mingus on her album "Mingus." Jazz great Herbie Hancock dedicated an entire album to interpreting her songs, "River: the Joni Letters."
