Now & Then: Edward Rogers + Amanda Thorpe: Alone & Together
Now & Then: Edward Rogers + Amanda Thorpe: Alone & Together Edward Rogers was born in the UK and lives in New York. Amanda Thorpe was born in the UK and lives in London. For one very special night only, the two get together to perform songs from their individual catalogs as well as songs from their highly-acclaimed Bedsit Poets project.
Edward Rogers Born in Birmingham, England where he spent the first 12 years of his life, prolific British-rock inspired singer-songwriter Edward Rogers moved to New York City just as the British Invasion began in the States. Rogers released his seventh solo album, TV Generation on Zip Records in June, 2017. In the gritty tradition of Nick Cave, Kevin Ayers and Ray Davies, TV Generation pairs Edwards authentic and reflective lyricism with his powerful melodic voice.
"Edward Rogers returns with his strongest and most varied album to date" The Big Takeover
"..steeped in classic British rock influences, dominated by Edwards way with a tune and pleasingly Anglophile presentation" UKs Shindig Magazine
Edward has played extensively in New York, the east coast, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Canada, Sweden, the UK and Ireland, both as a solo artist and with Bedsit Poets. As a solo artist, he has been invited to open for such artists as Terry Reid, Colin Blunstone, Marty Willson-Piper, Ian Hunter, Dave Davies of The Kinks and The Zombies.
Amanda Thorpe The music of Amanda Thorpe is never easy to pigeonhole, though it tends to lodge snugly in the subconscious. While staying true to her strong sense of melody, Amandas smart, often intensely personal songs with roots in folk and jazz subtly challenge our expectations of family forms. Her influences are as diverse as British pop-poet, Nick Drake and the sultry Francoise Hardy, to guitar-god and wordsmith Richard Thompson, the Velvet Underground and Blondie. Her most recent recording, Bewitching Me: The Lyrics of Yip Harburg, explores the works of American Songbook lyricist with a uniquely Amanda Thorpe approach to the interpretations of these familiar songs.
"Bewitching Me is a CD to help close the day as stars start to emerge, blue turns to deep violet, then to ebony and you wonder about the wonders and tragedy in the Everyday" Acoustic Music Shortly after moving to New York City, Amanda co-founded the catchy folk-rock quintet, Wirebirds, in the late 90s. The birds built a loyal following and garnered national attention in Billboard Magazine. "Combine the folk rock of Fairport Convention and the Byrds with a 90s sensibility, and the result is the Wirebirds" Billboard Magazine
When Amanda went solo, she honed her song-writing craft in ASCAPs prestigious Advanced Songwriters workshop and was selected to perform in several National Academy of Popular Music showcases. Bedsit Poets were born in an East Village apartment in the summer of 2004 where Edward Rogers and Amanda Thorpe embarked on a two-album songwriting journey (later joined by Mac Randall). They were given their name by Colin Blunstone, the lead singer of the iconic British group, The Zombies, when he heard about the project. Their debut, The Summer That Changed, was released in 2005 followed by 2008s Rendezvous both on Bongo Beat Records.
"The Bedsit Poets deliver tender originals that have an early-sixties innocence The New Yorker
"Heartaches n harmonies from a duo that knows their jingle from jangle" Mojo Magazine (UK) http://www.edwardrogersmusic.com/ https://amandathorpe.bandzoogle.com/
