Julia Santoli's Siren Sore: "burning body of love with Zach Rowden
Friday, July 13th, Julia Santoli continues her 2018 ISSUE residency with the premiere of a new work within her Siren Sore cycle: a mutant project of myriad form manifesting as visual project, recording album, and live performance through genre-crossing collaborations.

Santoli describes the work as retaining the narrative accessibility of song structures, but melding with the physical import of a collaborative, site-specific sonic approach. Through studying the transmission of body through voice, the siren emerges as a voice beyond the locus of capture or control -- an avenger of bodies transgressed.

The evening premieres burning body of love with double bassist Zach Rowden, staged within a sculptural landscape. Rowden returns to ISSUE after previous appearances including his singular performance of Ana-Maria Avrams Axe VII during her 2017 memorial concert, and the premiere of Artist-In-Residence Leila Bordreuils Piece for Cello and Double Bass Ensemble.

Julia Santoli is a Brooklyn-based artist and experimental musician. Creating immersive and precarious environments with voice, feedback, electronics, and installation, her work deals with intergenerational hauntings and reclamation through the body. She has presented solo and collaborative works at Queens Museum, Flux Factory, ISSUE Project Room, New York Live Arts, Judson Memorial Church, LUMP, Disjecta, Widow Jane Mine cave, GRACE Exhibition Space, Panoply Performance Laboratory; as well as presented and taught workshops during a 5-month residency in Spinnerei, Leipzig, DE.

Zach Rowden deals with the acoustic and performative possibilities of the upright/electric bass & violin. Current projects/collaborators include Iancu Dumitrescu and the late Ana-Maria Avrams Hyperion Ensemble (member/soloist), The Ghost (with Michael Foster, Derek Baron) Tongue Depressor (with Henry Bridsey), Tyshawn Sorey, Robert Black, Leila Bordreuil, Paul Flaherty, Chris Cretella, Charmaine Lee, Matt Sargent, and Wendy Eisenberg. Venues he has played  include Harpa, Issue Project Room, Silo City, Firehouse 12, Romanian Radio Hall, Cafe OTO, Heimathafen Neukölln, Real Art Ways as well as beautiful living rooms/basements/warehouses across the United States and Europe.
