Strengthening Local Economies, Everywhere! Dinner & Fair
Thank you for your interest in our event! Online ticket sales are now closed...but we will have some tickets available at the door! You can purchase tickets starting at 5pm on June 29th at Garfield.
The Fair is open to the public.
Please note the date change! Our event has been moved to Sunday, June 29th. Thanks for your flexibility.
Community Alliance for Global Justice invites you to help build alternatives to the corporate agribusiness model, which are healthier for our environment, our communities and ourselves. Last years dinner educated and inspired the community to actively participate in a food movement that strengthens local economies, everywhere. This years dinner will offer 400 people an engaging, sensory experience that highlights how an enthusiastic community can unite to ensure that people everywhere have healthy local economies, in which workers in all capacities in the food chain, immigrants, and small farmers are treated fairly. The dinner will be prepared with foods sourced from local farmers, fisherfolk, and ranchers with the addition of Fair Trade ingredients such as rice, bananas, chocolate, nuts, coffee, and tea.
The dinner will be prepared by local chefs, with the participation of Stumbling Goat Bistro, Portage Bay Cafe, and La Medusa. WA state wines and beer will also be served. Please support at $50 if you can - this rate is good for dinner for yourself and one farmer or farmworker. Local Farmers and Farmworkers will be our honored guests, and will join discussions at each table during the dinner!
Program:
o Dinner 6 - 9pm
o Keynote speaker: Carlos Marentes of Via Campesina and Committee for Immigration Reform and Social Justice
o Discussions at each table with local farmers and farmworkers!
o Dessert auction!
o Silent auction with goods and services from local businesses and organizations and political memorabilia!
o How you can get involved in globalizing the local food revolution!
3 - 6:00 pm: Come to the Fair before the dinner: Open to the public! Featuring local musicians, a community art project, a meet and greet with local farmers that have CSA programs, as well as table presentations by dozens of community organizations and local businesses working on food and farming issues, fair trade, global solidarity and sustainability.
Want to learn more about how to support alternatives to corporate-led globalization in Seattle and everywhere? Local organizations working on food, farming, immigrant rights, worker rights, fair trade, international solidarity and related issues will share information about food justice issues, the Fair Trade movement, local sustainability and gardening resources, and how to work for better trade, immigration and farm policy. By inviting a variety of local nonprofit organizations and businesses, we aim to broaden awareness about the connections between supporting local farmers and businesses here, and supporting the ability of people everywhere to have healthy local economies. Locally and fairly made food and other goods will also be available from small farmers, local businesses, and Fair Trade organizations!
Your support of this event helps CAGJ build our Strengthening Local Economies, Everywhere! Campaign. We have launched projects focusing on monitoring the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, and promoting local food justice in the Seattle area. Our campaign aims to educate and mobilize people to support the right of everyone, everywhere, to healthy local economies premised on respect for the environment and all workers in the food chain, including small farmers, farm workers, immigrants and grocery store workers: this is food justice.
