The Music for Peace Concert is dedicated to the memory of those we lost and to the pain of those who are suffering in our community after the traumatic attack on the Boston Marathon. You are invited to a reception with artists and Massachusetts Peace Action members after the concert.
Pianist Mana Tokuno has received wide-spread acclaim for her sensitive and insightful interpretations and her brilliant virtuosity. First Prize winner of the prestigious Competition Internationalé, she also received the Leo Sirota Award for Piano Solo Performance at the Corpus Christi International Competition as well as the Special Award for Schubert Interpretation at the International Competition Valsesia Musica in Varallo, Italy. Other prizes include the Dosei-Kai Prize for Distinction in Performance, and the Silver Medal in the Chubu Chopin Competition in Nagoya, Japan.
The young cellist Emily Jane Taubl has attracted attention for her expressive playing and uncommon poise. She has been featured in the New York Times as a musician of great promise, and was called "an outstanding cellist with a bright future" by the Hartford Courant. Having performed throughout the country, she has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Hartford Symphony, Granite State Symphony, Boston Virtuosi, New England String Ensemble, Nashua Chamber Orchestra, and Julliard Pre-College Symphony.
San Francisco native mezzo-soprano Jaime Korkos is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma in Opera Studies at the New England Conservatory, under the tutelage of Luretta Bybee. Ms. Korkos was most recently seen as Doralice in New England Conservatory's American premiere of the new Critical Edition of Rossini's comic opera La Gazzetta. Previous credits include Orfeo ed Euridice (Orfeo), La Périchole (La Périchole), Le Nozze di Figaro (workshop) (Cherubino), and Don Giovanni (Elvira) with NEC Opera; Rusalka (Rusalka) with The Diva Day Foundation; and Cendrillon (Cendrillon) with MetroWest Opera. Last summer, Ms. Korkos was a Gerdine Young Artist with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis and will be returning again this summer, playing the role of Edith in The Pirates of Penzance.
