"Heaven Sax Alive!"
If you crave great live jazz saxophone, fulfillment will be provided at North Fourth Art Theatre on Saturday, April 27, 7-9 pm. Duet improvisation tied to the best tunes incorporating melodic interplay is the fare being presented in a quintet featuring Glenn Kostur and Sam Reid. Kostur is the Director of Jazz Studies at UNM and wields his range of saxophones, including baritone, with skill and a depth of understanding of the instruments. Glenn settled in New Mexico after time on the road playing baritone sax and as Musical Director with the Maynard Ferguson Band. Rising Star Sam Reid has made a name for himself in New Mexico where he is completing graduate studies after 2 years as lead alto in the prestigious University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band. Both have appeared in the five-sax line-up in SuperSax New Mexico, commanding the stage with the kind of musical inspiration that induces bursts of audience applause. This unique concert - which also brings New York City transplant Jim Ahrend on keyboards, Jon Gagan on bass and Cal Haines at the drums - is the first exclusive pairing of two extraordinary woodwind talents and we can't wait to hear what happens! Since there is no doubt it will be a phenomenal event, A-Alive will be doing a live filming and recording for television.
