June 12, 2018 LAI Luncheon
Veteran political consultant and San Francisco insider Alex Clemens of Lighthouse Public Affairs will discuss what transpired in the June 5, 2018 special election in San Francisco. What does the mayoral triumph of Jane, Mark, London or Angela mean for the politics of land use and development in the city? Alex will offer his analysis of what happened and offer predictions.
PRESENTER Alex Clemens is a veteran political operative who has worked for four elected officials in San Francisco and Washington, DC. In 2003, Alex founded Barbary Coast Consulting - which the New York Times named an elite public affairs firm - and in 2016, he joined with Rich Peterson and Boe Hayward to combine their firms and co-founded Lighthouse Public Affairs.
An accomplished lobbyist, Alex regularly meets with elected and appointed officials on behalf of his clients. He has been involved in two decades of negotiations (both inside and government) surrounding San Francisco's favorite political pastime: debating location, height and density. Alex has helped facilitate City Hall, community and stakeholder conversations that have shaped housing and development policy on Rincon Hill, along Market Street, in SOMA, and the Van Ness and Geary corridors. Alex is also a lecturer at the University of San Francisco's Leo McCarthy Center, where he teaches Masters candidates about advocacy and lobbying.
