Morbid Anatomy Salem Pop-Up
Join Morbid Anatomy in Salem, Massachusetts for a night of illustrated talks exploring 19th century death themed amusements, the collection and contemplation of mourning objects, and flying guillotined heads, all inspired by our recent publication "Death: A Graveside Companion."
Morbid Anatomy founder and creative director Joanna Ebenstein will discuss death- and disaster-themed amusements in turn of the century Coney Island. Morbid Anatomy head librarian and programming director Laetitia Barbier will talk about the French guillotine and the trope of flying heads in the 19th century imagination, and Evan Michelson--antique dealer, aesthete and co-star of TV's Oddities--will read from her essay on the collection, curation and safekeeping of mortal remains, and how the mourning of strangers illuminates our own mysterious journey.
Copies of Morbid Anatomy books will be available for sale and signing.
Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 at the door.
