Voices Sings Walkin' in the Light
Voices from the Heart prepares to take off for South Africa this summer on a musical and humanitarian adventure! Cape Town, here we come! exudes Director, Joanne Connolly, but..before we do, we will sing our final stateside concert with 200 women's voices on Saturday, June 2 at 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. at South Church, 292 State Street in Portsmouth. As they prepare for their musical/humanitarian trip to South Africa this summer, Director Joanne Connolly and the women of Voices from the Heart will take the Portsmouth audience on a musical adventure of South African and American Gospel music. This amazing journey has been two years in the planning. We have set up concerts with South African choral groups, commissioned South African Xhosa composer, Bongani Magatyana, to write a piece just for Voices, and raised money for our South African humanitarian cause, Music Works, an organization that works with under-served children in the Cape Town area, giving them amazing musical performance experiences and music therapy, shares Connolly. To make a donation or to find out more about Voices' South African plans, you can visit voicesfromtheheart.org.
Because South African audiences will be looking for deeply American music from Voices during our tour, we will perform some great American Gospel music in the mix, explains Connolly. Joining Voices in our June 2nd concert will be Matt Jenson on piano with his trio; Winston Maccow on bass and Zeke Martin on percussion to make the singing soar, and Randy Armstrong and the djembes will be on hand to ramp up the African beat! This concert is sure to lift the spirit and get you dancing in the aisles!
Don't miss Voices from the Hearts Walkin' in the Light!! Seats will go quickly for the 4:00 and 7:30 shows, $12 in advance, and $15 at the door. Get yours soon! Please call (207) 451-9346 with any questions.
