SongBird North - Where Writers Sing and Tell (Formerly "Bluebird North")
Variety is par for the course with Vancouvers longest-running songwriters' showcase, where listeners can expect to discover talented artists who are new to them, and hear familiar voices in a different way. Its a unique live music experience: a warm, unplugged vibe, varied and inspiring performances, great stories, and of course, superlative song-writing. Currently celebrating its 23rd year in Vancouver, on June 12 host/producer Shari Ulrich will share the stage with:

BACKGROUND: Since 1995, SongBird North (formerly Bluebird North) has been a mainstay in Vancouver for songwriters from across the continent, as a bi-monthly showcase that features four talented singer/songwriters of widely varying styles, on stage together, taking turns playing their own original songs and sharing stories with one another and the audience about their work. The series has toured nationally, and has established itself in several other Canadian cities. Vancouver remains its longest-standing host city. www.songwriters.ca
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS (June 12, 2018)
MICHELLE CREBER is an 18-year-old award-winning actor, singer, song-writer, musician, dancer and voiceover artist. She is known around the world as the voice of Apple Bloom on the hit animated TV series, My Little Pony. Other notable voiceover credits include Lucy in Peanuts, Alice in Martha Speaks, and Wendy in The New Adventures of Peter Pan. Notable onscreen credits include her Leo-nominated Kelly in Strange Empire (CBC/Netflix), Supernatural (CW), Smart Cookies (Hallmark), Killer Among Us (Lifetime), The Haunting Hour (Hub), Eureka (NBC) and Search For Santa Paws (Disney). Her many theatre credits include "Jo March" in Little Women, "Dorothy" in Wizard of Oz and the title role of Annie (twice). A professional singer since the age of 4, Michelle has recorded lead vocals on over a dozen albums in addition to many TV & movie soundtracks. Recent singing features include the theme song for NBCs Nina's World, and a duet with Billy Joel for the movie Just the Way You Are. JOHN WORT HANNAM has travelled a long, hard road figuratively and literally from a teaching job on southern Alberta's Kainai First Nation to his current career as one of Canadas best folk/roots singer-songwriters. A Juno nominee, Canadian Folk Music Best Album of the Year Award winner and Winner of the Kerrville, Texas New Folk Song Competition, John is known for his unique take on the simple day-to-day dramas of common folk through songs that map the landscapes of both the human heart and this vast country of ours. He has performed at The Kennedy Centre, The Smithsonian, and Trafalgar Square, among many other places. His seventh album, Acres Of Elbow Room, is due out in September 2018.
CHRISTOPHER WARD has written songs for Diana Ross, Hilary Duff, Wynonna Judd, The Backstreet Boys, Tina Arena, Amanda Marshall, Roch Voisine and many others. His best-known song is the worldwide #1 hit for Alannah Myles, Black Velvet. He received the Juno Award for Songwriter of the Year in 1990. In 1984, after a stint in the Second City Touring Company, Ward helped launch MuchMusic as Canadas first VJ. As a songwriter, Ward contributed twenty songs over four seasons to the soundtrack of the hit CTV series Instant Star, as well as writing songs for both Degrassi feature films, the new Degrassi The Next Class, and Cirque du Soleils Banana Shpeel. His songs have been performed on Idol shows around the world. Black Velvet has also recently been featured on CBCs Battle of the Blades, NBCs The Voice, Fox hit comedy New Girl and Grand Theft Auto V. Wards has written three novels. His latest book, Is This Live? Inside the Wild Early Years of MuchMusic, published by Random House Canada in October of 2016. www.christopherward.ca
SHARI ULRICH (Host / Producer)
Shari's 45-year career from Pied Pumkin through The Hometown Band and on as a solo artist and multi-instrumentalist has led to 23 albums, including collaborations with Bill Henderson and Roy Forbes (UHF), Barney Bentall & Tom Taylor (BTU), and the bluegrass band The High Bar Gang. Her work has garnered several Juno Award nominations and two awards, induction into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame, and a 2014 Canadian Folk Music Award for English Songwriter of the Year. Her passion for songwriters sharing a stage has led her to produce the Bluebird North and SongBird North series for the SAC for over 21 years, both locally and nationally. www.shariulrich.com
