Kevin Daniel and Sherman Ewing
Uncommon Ground Presents a special, intimate dinner performance by Kevin Daniel and Sherman Ewing.

-------------

Since childhood, Kevin Daniel has known music was his future. Daniel recalls telling his parents he heard music in his head all the time, and their response was to buy him a keyboard and sign him up for lessons. Since that day, Daniel has spent a lifetime playing music, learning keys, saxophone, drums, guitar, bass, banjo, and even bagpipes along the way, all while singing in any capacity he could. Middle school saxophone quartets turned into high school rock bands before morphing into university symphony and jazz programs. Collegiate highlights include playing horn for DC-based Kill Lincoln, singing alto in the all-male a capella group Emocapella, and playing in the GWU blues band throughout the DC area.

After spending years of making music in a host of genres, including everything from big swing bands to bluegrass quartets, Kevin Daniel started his solo career in 2013 with the release of his inaugural EP, FLY. Two decades of performing, writing, and recording had prepared Daniel to record and perform his own original music, while the sudden loss of his mother and stepfather provided the motivation to proceed with his dream. Backed by a band of talented musicians, Daniel brings FLY and an increasingly large collection of new original tunes to the east coast and beyond.

Kevin Daniel is currently finishing his second EP, Myself Through You, recorded at Degraw Sound in Brooklyn, NY, and produced, engineered, and mixed by Ben Rice. Daniels sophomore EP brings the bold emotions of the organ, steel guitar, and horn to the forefront of Americana music, a genre growing its fan base exponentially. With backup vocals provided by the talented Irene Blackman, Daniels lyrics touch on his childhood in rural North Carolina, personal struggle with the loss of his family, and the inevitable forward push of time.

Following the future release of Myself Through You in early 2018, Kevin Daniel will tour throughout the northeast, southeast, south, and Midwest, bringing his explosive live
performances and a full band on the road and to the masses.

------------

Brooklyn-based Sherman Ewing has crafted a dual success story that celebrates tenacity, hard work and faith. A Columbia graduate, hes an Ivy Leaguer who ended up balancing two distinct and unlikely careers: one as an indie rocker, and another as a dog-walking entrepreneur.

While Ewings elite college colleagues were heading off to graduate school, getting married and buying homes, he was reeling from the tragic death of his mother -- a devout, religious woman who did not believe in standard medicine, even in the face of cancer. Ewing struggled to find his footing following her passing, but he does recall her telling him to follow his dreams...and he found them in his love of music and dogs.

As an independent singer/songwriter, he has been compared to Bob Dylan and Keith Richards and covered in USA Today multiple times, with writer Elysa Gardner noting Ewings songs have a wry lyricism that suggests a hard-won emotional integrity.

Parallel to his music career, Ewing has made a name for himself as a hometown entrepreneur, building his New York-based Club Pet NYC dog walking business from a rag-tag one-man operation to a respected local firm, with dozens of employees and a client list that includes some of the most prominent families in the Big Apple. Club Pet NYC was picked by New York Magazine as the city's #1 Dog Walking service, and has also been covered by NPR.

Ewings New York roots are intertwined with his dual careers. A resident of Red Hook, Ewing found unlikely inspiration in the devastation he experienced in Hurricane Sandys wake. His most recent album Cross My Broken Heart mined the harrowing experience (sadly shared by many at the time,) as his home was virtually destroyed, and he began the process of putting things back together.

Ewings New York story also includes attending Columbia University, working with underprivileged kids at Covenant House, walking dogs while working overnights at Fountain House (a residence for people with mental illness,) and embracing a spiritual path within his community and among his friends, that continues to guide him forward to this day.
