Hollywood Heritage and The International Buster Keaton Society Present: Buster Keaton Weekend Opening Night Gala!
On Friday, June 15th at 7:00, Hollywood Heritage and The International Buster Keaton Society present an evening of special events to open the Society's Buster Keaton Weekend in Los Angeles. Saturday, June 16th will be declared Buster Keaton Day in L.A., and a new bronze plaque will be placed in the sidewalk to mark the former location of the Buster Keaton Studios. The opening night gala, at the Hollywood Heritage Museum, will include films featuring Keaton's studio, presentations about the studio then and today, and a talk by our featured guest, Paul Dooley.
The evening includes a light catered dinner and dessert.
We will screen Buster Keaton's short films, "Neighbors" and "The Goat," to be followed by a talk with historian John Bengtson, who has painstakingly researched the locations used in Buster Keaton's classic silent films, and has combined images from Keaton's movies with archival photographs, historic maps, and dramatic then-and-now comparisons.
Star of stage, screen, and TV (also cartoonist, magician, stand-up comedian and co-creator of television's "The Electric Company"), Paul Dooley will join us to reminisce about the early days of his career, silent comedy and the unforgettable experience of working on a television commercial with the great Buster Keaton.
We will also hear from Patricia Eliot Tobias, the founder of The International Buster Keaton Society and from Alek Lev, the organizer of Keaton Weekend. With all our guests, the screenings, the beauty of the historic Hollywood Heritage Museum, and - don't forget - those delicious vittles, this opening night event is one that Keaton fans won't want to miss!
