A Murder in Atlanta. An Abduction in Milledgeville. A Lynching in Marietta.
The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical PARADE finally comes to Marietta in its premiere professional run just off the historic Marietta town square. Directed by Taylor Buice, led by Broadway veteran Jared Bradshaw (Jersey Boys, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as suspected murderer Leo Frank, and featuring an entire cast of Georgia natives, The Wallace Buice Theatre Company invites you to #findyourtruth.
1913
Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-raised Jew living in Georgia, is on trial for the murder of thirteen-year-old Mary Phagan, a factory worker under his employ. Leo is the last person to see Mary Phagan alive, and is immediately public enemy number one. This outsider "Yankee" is already guilty in the eyes of many Atlantans.
A bungled crime. Mishandled evidence. A janitor's contradictory testimony. Daily incendiary headlines. -- They all seal Leo's fate.
Leos defenders include a governor with a conscience, and eventually his assimilated Southern wife -- who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion.
Daring, innovative and bold, Parade is filled with soaring music and a heart-wrenching story, where real news and "fake news" were served up and digested equally.
Amid religious intolerance, political injustice and racial tension, the stirring Tony Award-winning Parade explores the endurance of love and hope against all odds. With a book by acclaimed playwright Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, The Robber Bridegroom) and a rousing, colorful and haunting score by Jason Robert Brown (Songs For a New World, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County), Parade is a moving examination of one of the darkest corners of America's history. This limited run at the intimate Lyric Studio's Theatre in the Square is sure to be a hot ticket, and the theatrical event of the Fall.
