The Permaculture Design Process with Dan Halsey
Food forests and forest gardening bring together the best ecological systems that allow us sustainable and high-yield harvests. In temperate northern climates we have the best resources and environment for a wide selection of plants and trees. This two-day course will focus on the permaculture design process and drawing skills. We will be using cold climate strategies for solutions and pencil process to develop professional level presentations of designs.
Day One: 9AM - 4PM (1 Hr Lunch) Site Assessment, Data Mining Case Studies of Permaculture Design and the Design Process. Drawing and Basemap Development. Drawing plant symbol and polycultures.
Day Two: 9AM - 4PM (1 Hr Lunch)
Ecological Systems, Polycultures and Building Plant Guilds, Grouping for Functional Plant Systems, and Placement Practice and personal site design adaptation Final Orchard Design Lab. All materials supplied.
Students will have full Access to the Natural Capital Plant Database for the duration of the course. Public access will be available thereafter. Bring a laptop if you can.
Instructor Dan Halsey
Daniel Halsey is a certified permaculture and professional agro-ecosystem and restoration designer, author, and lecturer. Daniel has a Bachelor of Science degree in Temperate Climate Polyculture Design and a Masters of Professional Studies in Horticulture from the University of Minnesota. He is hired nationally and internationally to design private homesteads, intentional communities, and broad-acre transition. He teaches in Haiti, Lebanon, Costa Rica, Canada, across the United States, England, Alaska, and South Africa. Dan is also managing director of PRI/USA and the Natural Capital Plant Database.

- Camping onsite is available at no cost. - This will include access to bathrooms, water, cooking facilities but no refrigeration. - These courses will include light refreshments but you will provide your own lunch and dinner.
