Ae Film Fest - Force Majeure
FORCE MAJEURE
Unforeseeable circumstances that prevent someone from fulfilling a contract; irresistible compulsion or greater force.

The Altered Esthetics Film Festival presents its 5th season at Strike Theater, May 31st - June 2nd  with screenings, performances, and discussions. Each year a theme is selected based upon trends noticed in the selected submissions. This year's theme, Force Majeure, brings a wide variety of moving-image-based works together to push the bounds of expanded cinema. The festival screens local, national, and international artists.

Altered Esthetics is a volunteer-driven nonprofit. Strike Theater is ADA accessible.

This event is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

FEATURED ARTISTS

The purpose of the Featured Artist award is to honor and recognize promising artwork from 1-2 artists who are innovative with their approach to the moving image medium. Only Minnesota-based artists are considered for the Featured Artist recognition. Featured Artists receive an honorarium and various promotions.

Ae Film Festival Featured Artists are Reb L. Limerick & Sami Pfeffer:

Reb L. Limerick is a multi-media performance artist and UMN MFA 2018 graduate in the area of Interdisciplinary Art and Social Practice. Since receiving a BA in Video Art / Writing from UC San Diego in 2013, Limerick has participated in workshops with Marina Abramovic, Odeya Nini, and Pauline Oliveros, practicing endurance, improvisation, and deep listening. She thrives on sunshine, and will spend this summer in residence at The Soap Factory. Through language, voice, and collaboration, Reb L Limerick explores the weight of current relationships between humanity, sexuality, technology, and ecology. www.reblart.space

Altered Esthetics Film Festival will feature Limericks work on Thursday, May 31st.

Sami Pfeffer is a white queer performance artist. They write plays, make films, and build installations. They create uncomfortable spaces-- consensually-- to ask for and offer the vulnerability of communal healing.

Altered Esthetics Film Festival will feature Pfeffers work on Friday, June 1st.

HISTORY
Established in 2014, Altered Esthetics' largest program is the the Ae Film Festival (formerly the Ae Art House Film Festival), an annual event dedicated to the organizations mission to foster an inclusive and sustainable arts community through exhibitions, education, and outreach.

The festival exhibits artists who explore the art of the moving image, including artworks that represent experimental narratives, genre-expanding documentary, contemporary art practices, and avant-garde poetics. The selections of short film and video work stretch the notion of what the moving image is and can be.
