SOLI kicks off its 25th Anniversary Season with great friends and spectacular music.
In our usual eclectic style we have curated a program that will transport you to five unique sound worlds from five celebrated composers.
One of the most decorated composers of our time Jennifer Higdons beautiful PIANO TRIO, Pulitzer Prize winning composer Caroline Shaws delicious VALENCIA for String Quartet, D.C based award-winning composer Natalie Drapers 2014 work STRAINS IN THE SIGNAL, and Syrian-American composer Kareem Roustoms poetic duo for clarinet and viola LETTERS HOME will make up the first half of the concert.
We could not say goodbye to 2018 without celebrating the 100th Birthday of one of Americas most iconic composers, Leonard Bernstein. His dark and lyrical duo VARIATIONS ON AN OCTATONIC SCALE for clarinet and cello will open the second half. Syrian-American composer Kareem Roustoms deeply moving sextet TRACES will be the center-piece of the program.
Our good friends, San Antonio Symphonys Assistant Concertmaster, spectacular violinist Sarah Silver Manzke and Internationally celebrated violist from Miller-Porfiris Duo Rita Porfiris will be our guests for this exciting program. CONCERT 2: 'AN EVENING WITH CLARICE'
Sunday, March 31, 2019, 2:00 PM * Jazz TX, 312 Pearl Parkway, Bldg. 6 Suite 6001, San Antonio, Tx. Tel: 2103329386

Since Brazilian-American composer and vocalist Clarice Assads hugely successful guest appearance with SOLI in 2016, SOLI and Assad have been working on a large-scale project, which will include a brand new composition for her and SOLI entitled 'Synthetic Brain,' along with some of her most beautiful and successful works re-imagined for SOLI. This evening-long program will then tour to several cities around the country and culminate in a recording project of the new works from the tour. Assad is a tour de force, both in classical and jazz circles. She is a singer, pianist, and composer of unmatched caliber. You don't want to miss this concert!
CONCERT 3 BORDERS - Scott Ordway Project Sunday, June 2, 2019, 3:00 PM * Leeper Auditorium, McNay Art Museum
Composer Scott Ordway was first featured on SOLIs FUTURE program on our 20th Anniversary season, as a young up and coming composer. Since then he has collaborated with many ensembles and his work has been premiered all around the world. Currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Composition at Rutgers University, Ordway will write a site-specific work which will incorporate theatrical lighting and choreography. The new work will tackle the broader meaning of the theme of Borders and immigration and will feature composers own writings as well as his own light design that will further enhance this concert-length work.
