Finnriver Craft Course: Pocket Purse and Hand-Bound Notebook using Plant-Dyed Textiles
Class Description: Explore the beauty of organic plant-dyed fabrics and take home a sweet pocket purse and simple notebook. Participants will work with Alison Kaplan of Kata Golda on an approachable hand-sewing project to complete a small purse made of organic cotton/hemp that is the perfect size to tuck in essentials. Alison will also guide the class through a bookbinding lesson where students will learn the basic techniques for making a small notebook covered with organic cotton linen that will fit perfectly into their new purse. The fabrics are hand-dyed exclusively for Kata Golda with botanical pigments, resulting in a beautifully nuanced collection of ethically produced textiles. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from seven colors for their purse and notebook: red (dyed with madder root), orange (dyed with madder root and fustic), yellow (dyed with fustic), green (dyed with weld and indigo), blue (dyed with indigo), walnut (dyed with walnut hulls) and pink (dyed with lac and quebracho.)
