Art Machine - Omaha Film Festival
Art Machine is the story of a child prodigy painter, Declan Truss, who at the age of six becomes recognized by the art world and propelled as a rare marvel. But by the time he's seventeen, a chemical imbalance fueled by the tightrope of fame has led Declan to develop bipolar disorder. The focus on his painting is the only thing that keeps Declan on his medication. With a pushy mother and the pressures of an impending coming-of-age solo show bearing down upon him, Declan searches through Brooklyn for inspiration. His world opens up when he chances upon a group of rebellious freethinkers in Bushwick. Falling in love with one of them, a pyrotechnic outsider artist named Cassandra Moon, Declan reaches beyond painting to experiment with other media, and slips off his medication, quickly spinning out of control. As he becomes consumed by his mania, he begins to regard his family as part of a system that's keeping him down, and magnetically rallies the Bushwick rebels to take part in his progressively subversive art exhibition--one that will ultimately shock and destroy.Set against the backdrop of Brooklyn's current vibrant, cutting-edge art and music scene, Art Machine is a dark comedy about the tenuous relationship between art and commerce, the fine line between creative genius and clinical mania, and the damaging effects of fame.
