MARTHA MOOKE
Martha Mooke - No Ordinary Window (2015), A Dream in Sound (2014)
Armed with her custom-made Yamaha electric viola and an array of technological enhancements, Martha Mooke is not bound by the conventional rules of the instrument, playing with reverb and delay, creating harmonies and textures as she crafts layered compositions from her single instrument. With improvisation as an integral part of her work, the result is something more akin to a performance experience, born of a moment that will never come again. This program features works from her latest CD, No Ordinary Window.

WILL MASON
Will Mason - Thet Thet (2017)
Thet Thet (2017) is a loud and slowly-shifting work for snare drum and electronics, in which a very fast and ever-changing series of snare drum rhythms are processed into various noises and eventually become pitched. It is a meditation on the transcendent, grotesque beauty of effort and exertion. Will Mason is a composer, performer, and music scholar based in NYC and a visiting faculty member at Oberlin Conservatory.

POST-HASTE REED DUO Javier Rodriguez, bassoon Sean Fredenburg, saxophone
Ruby Fulton - 27 Miles East of Headquarters, ID (2017), Donut Robot (2018)
27 Miles East of Headquarters, ID (2017), for solo bassoon and electronics, is a musical meditation on solitude and loneliness, based on a first-hand experience of being stranded overnight in Idaho's Clearwater National Forest. Donut Robot! (2018), for alto saxophone and bassoon, is an exploration into the concept of autocorrect, and how sometimes technology designed to clarify meaning can have the opposite effect instead. Both pieces were written by Moscow, Idaho-based composer Ruby Fulton, tailored specifically to the musical stylings of the Post Haste Reed Duo (Sean Fredenburg, saxophones; Javier Rodriguez, bassoon).
