Alan Tormey - Second Commentary on the Natures of Realism (2014)
Pittsburgh-based Eclectic Laboratory Chamber Orchestra produces concerts and multimedia performances that are informed by the American experimental tradition and that actively cross-pollinate between popular and avant-garde musical styles. For this festival, they will be presenting Alan Tormey's A Second Mediation on the Natures of Realism, for three analog electronic instruments. This work connects the contemporary sonic realism of Acoustic Ecology and Soundscape Studies to the international and classically-inspired musical grammar that was common to both Soviet Realism and American Social Realists such as Aaron Copland or Roy Harris.
