Perhaps most widely recognised by the inimitable Maria Callas interpretation of the title role, Tosca, by Puccini, travels from one breathtaking moment to the next in break-neck speed. The story follows a beautiful diva, Tosca (Helen Lyons, Soprano) and her lover Mario Cavaradossi (Joshua Collier, Tenor) as they become embroiled in a plot against the state, the vile Scarpia (Baritone, Adelmo Guidarelli) does all in his power to exert his dominance over her, even by arresting her lover, and sentencing him to death. Some of Puccinis most famous arias including Vissi DArte and E Lucevan le Stelle provide a visceral musical backdrop for this passionate and intriguing operatic thriller.
