Upstate Rubdown & Billy Wylder w/ special guest Blind Crow
BILLY WYLDER:
"A spiritual cousin to Paul Simon's Graceland" Seven Days
From the front-lines at Standing Rock to the archaic streets of Jerusalem, the Sahel Desert to Carnegie Hall, music has been the source of strength for Billy Wylder. The band features Avi Salloway (Bombino/Hey Mama/Avi & Celia) joined by an inspired cast of singular artists who have performed in over twenty five countries, including concerts at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival, Newport Folk Festival, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Montreal Jazz Fest, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center. From 2013-16, Salloway toured the globe with Bombino, the Tuareg guitar hero from Niger, Africa. While on the journey and since returning, Salloway wrote a collection of new material that will be released on the bands forthcoming album in 2018. The music weaves together American folk and rock with sensibilities from the Sahara Desert: think Andrew Bird meets Ali Farka Toure, Pete Seeger and Talking Heads. Mother Earth is at its center, surrounded by stories of love, conflict, change and dreams. The band has toured extensively, performing and collaborating with renowned artists including Jack Johnson, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Bombino, The Low Anthem, and Pete Seeger.
UPSTATE RUBDOWN:
Upstate Rubdown is an acoustic septet drawing inspiration from every corner and decade of America's musical heritage. Based in New York State's Hudson Valley region, the band has spent years cultivating its sound, and continues to grow by the tune. The instrumentation includes Harry D'Agostino on upright bass, Ryan Chappell on mandolin, Dean Mahoney on cajón, and Christian Joao on flute and alto/baritone saxophone. The dynamic rhythm section supports a three part vocal harmony powerhouse of founding members Mary Kenney and Melanie Glenn with recent Nashville-transplant Allison Olender. Over its six year history, the band has played in more than thirty states, from intimate house concerts to prominent festival stages, including Mountain Jam, Frendly Gathering, Green River Festival, and Otis Mountain Get Down. The band has opened for Cory Henry, Phox, Marco Benevento, The Felice Brothers, Commander Cody, Marcus King Band, and many others.
BLIND CROW:
A progressive string quartet from Albany, NY, Blind Crow blends technical proficiency, infectious rhythms, and insane amounts of energy to create an inspiring musical experience. The bands repertoire reflects the unique musical perspective that each of the four members brings to the group - resulting in a show that has something for everyone.
