Around the Table: A look into the lives of Au Collective
Join Au Collective as we lay bare our struggles, our joys, and our determination to reimagine the art and cultural landscape of Seattle. In a candid conversation moderated by writer and curator Imani Sims, Au members will discuss the successes and challenges the Collective has faced in trying to create a structure, especially in the arts and in dance, that centers the needs and perspectives of the most marginalized among us. We will discuss what it means to create an arts institution that constantly unlearns toxic cultures in society, and what an intentional community can look like when it is rooted in values of equity, justice and intersectionality beyond the buzzwords. For us as people of color, queer people, and womxn with multiple marginalized identities, how do we realize a world we want to live in?
A mixer will follow the panel, with pop-up performances by Au Collective members. Hors doeuvre and refreshments will be provided courtesy of That Brown Girl Cooks.
Au Collective is a Seattle-based movement collective and nonprofit that puts people of color, queer people, and femmes at the forefront of everything it does. Since its establishment in 2015, the collective has obtained a 501(c)(3) status, been produced by entities across Washington (Pacific Northwest Ballet, On the Boards, Seattle Art Museum, Bellingham Repertory Dance), and collaborated with organizations that center historically marginalized communities (Moksha, Yesler Community Center, Women.Weed.Wifi). Au Collective believes that through art and community-building, we can all realize a world that we want to live in.
