Brian Glaze & Tiffany's, The Aerosols, Anna Hillburg
[Brian Glaze & Tiffanys, The Aerosols, Anna Hillburg]
BRIAN GLAZE AND TIFFANYS Brian Glazes notoriety as the original drummer in the Brian Jonestown Massacre is forever eclipsed by his status as a singer/songwriter. On his previous solo release, Glaze collaborated in the studio and on the road with Greg Ashley of Gris Gris, here Brian has constructed every recording by himself and the result is his most focused effort to date best evidenced in what proves to be the definitive take on Bad News. This moody atmospheric demo truly conjures up the feeling that bad news is indeed lurking in the shadows no matter where you go and is sooner or later bound to turn up. Leader of The Band is very accessible middle ground between classic Elton John la la las with Ariel Pinks densely layered, lo-fi production. Killing Time recalls shades of Creation Records psychedelic pop band Revolving Paint Dream while Silver Ashes mines the territory of late 70s new wave.
THE AEROSOLS are awesome psych-pop that is super catchy and is definitely reminiscent of old Elephant Six bands (especially Olivia Tremor Control, Apples in Stereo, and earlier Of Montreal) and, if we want to get real, actual psych rock like 13th Floor Elevators and the poppier Pink Floyd. WFMU
ANNA HILLBURG Hillburgs songs are modern and fresh while also being eerily reminiscent of some of the best singer-songwriters of the classic era. She easily calls to mind the classic pop sensibilities of Harry Nillson, the romantic drama of Fleetwood Mac, the confessional lyricism of Joni Mitchell, and the effortless hooks of Paul McCartneyall without sacrificing her own strong and individual voice.
