Stop Kiss
Stop Kiss by Diana Son Directed by Alivia Caruso (F16)
In Stop Kiss by Diana Son, the year is 1998 and Callie, a traffic reporter who has lived in New York City for years meets Sara, a teacher from St. Louis who has recently moved to the city. The two of them begin a friendship that becomes much more romantically charged than either of them could have anticipated. Throughout the play, they hesitantly try to make sense of their feelings for one another.
After the two of them share their first kiss, they experience a homophobic attack wherein Sara is severely injured. Using a non-linear narrative, the play alternates between their world before and after this attack. Stop Kiss explores themes of navigating ones first queer love in a homophobic world, as well as finding hope and healing after trauma.
Content Warning: Off stage homophobic violence, detailed discussion of off stage violence, brief non-sexual toplessness, lewd language, mentions of sex/genitals, homophobic slurs, racial microaggressions, and transphobic comments
