Found.
'Found', the new independent coming-of-age horror film from director Scott Schirmer and author Todd Rigney, premiered at Elvira's Horror Hunt in September 2012, where it won awards for best feature, best director, and best actor (Ethan Philbeck). Based on Rigney's novel, 'Found' is about a young boy who discovers his older brother is a serial killer. Thirteen-year old Gavin Brown plays Marty, the shy bullied fifth-grader who takes refuge in horror films and comics... until fantasy becomes reality. After discovering a human head in his brother's closet, Marty fears for the safety of his family while making a desperate effort to reconnect with Steve (Ethan Philbeck), the big brother whose homicidal cravings threaten to destroy life as Marty knows it. It's a coming-of-age drama that descends so utterly and completely into full-blown horror,' says Schirmer, a Bloomington-based filmmaker whose past films include 'House of Hope' and 'Off the Beaten Path'. 'It has a lot to say about bullying and the potential horrors of growing up. Todd perfectly captures a moment in a boy's life, and I think many boys' lives, where he is forced to make a conscious decision to leave boyhood behind, to risk alienating his mother and family, just so he can compete and survive among his peers. And boys do this even if it means sacrificing core parts of their humanity. That's what happens when caring gets perceived as a feminine quality, a weakness. And in the depiction of Steve, the older brother, I think we can see how dangerous that sacrifice can be. Because sometimes boys don't grow into men. Sometimes they become monsters.'Shot throughout Indiana, 'Found' features an all-Midwest cast and crew, including special makeup effects by Bloomington's Clockwerk Creature Company and an animated title sequence by Indianapolis artist Lowell Isaac. The premiere screening at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater will be followed by an on-stage Q&A panel with members of the production.Screenplay by Todd Rigney & Scott Schirmer; produced by Leya Taylor and Damien Wesner; associate producers Arthur Cullipher and Shane Beasley; director of photography Leya Taylor; edited by Scott Schirmer; music by Aaron Marshall, Bing Satellites, Mike Anderson (Magician Johnson), Lito Velasco, and Greg Wright.Starring: Gavin Brown, Ethan Philbeck, Phyllis Munro, Louie Lawless, Alex Kogin, Andy Alphonse, Kate Braun, Adrian Cox-Thurmond, Angela Denton, Kitsie Duncan, Eddie Jackson, Brigid MacAuley, and Shane Beasley as the 'Headless' Killer.
