Who IS the foreigner? So asked Toni Morrison at The Foreigners Home, her 2006 exhibition at the Louvre. Morrison invited artists whose work addressed the experience of migration and displacement to join her in conversation about issues she had long examined in her own writing and teaching. Through extensive archival footage, music, and animation, this film expands that conversation. Neither biography nor traditional documentary, it is instead a provocative and timely meditation on some of humanitys oldest divisions, exploring Morrisons artistic and intellectual vision through a series of candid and incisive exchanges about race, identity, foreignness, and arts redemptive power.
The Foreigners Home is a featurelength documentary film that explores the vision and work of Toni Morrison through The Foreigners Home, the 2006 exhibition she guestcurated at the Louvre. Morrison invited renowned artists whose work also deals with the experience of cultural and social displacement to join her in a public conversation that she had been pursuing for years through her own research and writing and in her teaching at Princeton University. The film expands that conversation, combining exclusive and unreleased footage of the Nobel Laureate in dialogue with artists first, in Paris in 2006 and then, in 2015, at her home in New York state with extensive archival film footage, music, and still images to present a series of candid and incisive exchanges about race, identity, foreignness, and arts redemptive power.

A violinist pursues a joint concert by warring North and South Korea at the worlds most militarized border.
Hyungjoon Won, Juilliard-trained violinist, is closer than ever to realizing his pursuit of the last 7 years: a first joint concert by North and South Korea. It would straddle the 38th Parallel, where soldiers stand mere feet apart ready to resume battle at a moments notice (the Korean War officially never ended).
Wons family, like tens of thousands, was separated by the war, never to meet or speak again.
His song of choice is Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. Thy magic reunites those Whom stern custom has parted All men will become brothers.'
In the week leading up to the concert, inspired musicians from around the world gather in Seoul but military aggression, geopolitical paralysis, and apathy threaten to derail a dream that many called crazy to begin with.See less
