Maya Ciarrocchi Site: Sorel Performance
Kinescope Gallery with Fillmore Projects, in conjunction with the exhibition Maya Ciarrocchi Site: Sorel, present a performance about the life and writing of Barbara Sorel. The performance, under the guise of a reading and conversation, will occur on Friday, May 11 from 6-8pm, and will be comprised of reading from Sorels novel, Sorel in Love by a curated group of readers. The readings will lead to a broader discussion on the subject of life and death, art, and success.
Site: Sorel is a meditation on the real and imaginary spaces left behind by the dead. In this work, Ciarrocchi conjures an image of Barbara Sorel, an author and fixture of the 1990s lesbian bar scene in New York City. Combining memories of Sorels friends with Ciarrocchi's own, and by utilizing text from Sorel's self-published book Sorel in Love, the exhibition and performance merges language with image to reveal where the two womens experiences intersect and collide.
Admission is free. Reserving a ticket here (link) is strongly encouraged as space is limited.
Maya Ciarrocchi is an interdisciplinary artist in New York City. She earned a MFA from the School of Visual Arts and a BFA from Purchase College.
