Gotta Serve Somebody

Saturday night, May 19, brings a fabulous not-to-be-missed concert in Ojai with local band The Thematics, raising funds for the JOHN C. SLADE MEMORIAL THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP that was established soon after John died last July.

The Thematics are Charlie Bosson, Jimmy Calire, Virginia Kron, Tara Jeffery, Rain Perry, Robert Rachelli, J.B. White and Martin Young. With SPECIAL SURPRISE GUESTS they'll perform an evening of BOB DYLAN songs at the Ojai Presbyterian Church.

John Slade taught drama at Nordhoff High School for many years, and the scholarship in his name helps support a graduating senior to pursue theater studies at the collegiate level. Already, two students will receive awards from the scholarship in June of this year!

John was also a fabulous songwriter and performer. The musicians chose a night of Dylan because a number of years ago, at a well-remembered Ojai concert, John brought down the house with his rendition of Gotta Serve Somebody (which he also covered on his I Got Plans album). We hope May 19 will celebrate the memory of that performance and a truly special person.
