Famous psychologist Carl Jung was once asked if he thought humankind could/would avoid self-destruction. His answer: If enough people do their shadow work.
Shadow Work was Jungs term for coming to know, understand and deal with the parts of ourselves we dont at first accept as our own when we see them manifest in other people. These days there are plenty of such triggers in personal and public life. Shadow work may help us better cope. Jung also suggested affirmative, Golden Shadow Work, the process of accepting positive parts of ourselves that for some reason or other we usually fear or disown.
This course will introduce you to Shadow Work through some simple guided written exercises to help you reflect on your negative reactions to unpleasant encounters with family members, friends and public figures, and to access your better angels. There will be ample opportunity for discussion and for sharing whatever you choose to share.
Kathy Bornino has been a psychotherapist in private practice for 30 years. She was for five years on the Board of the Central Coast Jung Society.
