The WSO presents six concerts each season, including our very popular family and holiday concerts -- presenting great works, old and new, while working to build audiences for classical music by:
* Offering free admission to children under twelve at every concert so young people and their families can experience classical music together.
* Delightful pre-concert discussions and hands-on learning during the famous "Instrument Petting Zoo"
* Sharing the stage with Wellesley Middle School students at our family concert
* Hosting the Young Soloist Competition where young musicians to compete for a chance to perform as the headline concerto Soloist with the Orchestra.
Under the leadership of Max Hobart the WSO regularly commissions new works by local composers. In 2014 the WSO presented the World premiere of "The Legend of Longfellow Pond (and the Mysterious Gravestone)" for narrator and orchestra by Travis Ramsey (composer of "The Lost Art of Steam Heating").
We regularly showcase new and established soloists -- last season featured pianist Mana Takuno, cellist Owen Young of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Julia Glenn on violin. This season features the Romanul brothers on violin and viola, baritone singer John Castillo, internationally renowned pianist Victor Rosenbaum, and the premiere of a piece of commissioned work by composer Keane Southard!
This year is our 70th season, and it will be spectacular.
Please help the WSO make great music in Metro-West -- as you can see, the WSO will put your contribution to good use!
