Rose Mallett in Songs Of Sarah, a tribute to Sarah Vaughan
Rose Mallett was born in Chicago, Illinois where she began singing in elementary school chorus. At 16 she and three girlfriends formed a group and were discovered by the popular singing duo, Sam And Dave, who arranged for them to record a demo at Capital Records, which led to a recording contract. Later on, Rose met Marvin Gaye, who introduced her to Motown producer, Hal Davis. Davis hired Rose to record demos of some songs he had written to pitch to existing Motown artists. As a solo artist, Rose has traveled extensively throughout the US, including Las Vegas at the MGM Grand with Ben Vereen and Susan Anton. In films, she sang the song, I Never Think Of You for the film Now And Then for New Line Cinema, and played herself in the movie, Guinevere for Miramax.
Songs Of Sarah, with original book written by Ken Steele, will highlight the life and career of International singer, Sarah Vaughan. The classic hits recorded by Sarah Vaughan is extensive; Black Coffee, Poor Butterfly, Lullaby Of Birdland, Send In The Clowns, Someone To Watch Over Me, September Song, and Round Midnight, to name just a few. Born in 1924, The Devine One as she was known, died in 1990, having won four Grammy Awards - including the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1989 The National Endowment For The Arts presented her with The Jazz Masters Award. Her recordings continue to be regarded as some of the best renditions of all time.
