Solving BIG Problems- UMD Statistics Presents on Neighborhood Health
The narrative about health disparities in St. Louis County, and between neighborhoods in Duluth has taken root. Government, healthcare, and philanthropic and nonprofit partners have become much more aware of the social determinants of health impacting our residents and neighborhoods. It is not unusual to now hear "health disparities" or "12-year life expectancy gap" discussed in the media, at neighborhood meetings, and online.
Come to learn more about how this gap is determined and learn about the most recent update of the data (using ACS 2011-2016) as senior UMD statistics and math majors, under the direction of Dr. Tracy Bibelnieks, present on their semester long project to update the St. Louis County data.
Bring your questions and be prepared to expand your understanding of the fundamental information behind health disparities in the northland.
