The Hairy Ape
Ghost Light Theatricals' production of Eugene O'Neill's 1922 expressionist play, The Hairy Ape, combines abstract movement, choreographed stage violence, shadow work, and performance art to tell the story of a brutish, unthinking, middle-aged laborer known as Yank.
While he tries to find a sense of belonging in the world, Yank is trapped by his social class and acculturated understanding of masculinity. He is unable to escape outside of the aggressive, emotionally armored, masculine male paradigm which ultimately confines him to a solitary and adversarial existence.
Wilder Nutting-Heath (director) is a trained marriage and family therapist and drama therapist who will utilize a mixture of traditional directing techniques along with adapted therapeutic techniques to help the actors more deeply connect with themselves and their characters.
