Born out of the lakeshore city of Muskegon, Inside the Mitten is a moderated concert showcase of Michigan-based musical acts that have chosen to put their shared experiences of the peninsulas to music. Inside The Mitten was created and is hosted by Watermark Live with concerts held at Watermark 920. Artists are not chosen based on genre, rather they are chosen because they exhibit rare potential. We're proud of the amazing talent the Great Lakes State continues to produce ...and appreciate the opportunity to bring such esteemed artists home to our fair city. Whether already established like Paul Hoffman of Greensky Bluegrass, on the up and up like The Crane Wives, or lurking in the background ready to explode like Big Dudee Roo, Inside The Mitten's goal is to present a truly unique evening.
Inside The Mitten was created to dig deep into what makes, sustains, and drives artists in the Mitten state. The moderator for the evening tastefully interjects questions in between songs making the ITM experience truly unique and informative as well as FUN. Each concert is an intimate setting where concert goers have a great night out celebrating Michigan through music and Michigan made beer/wine as they get to know the bands and the stories behind their music.
Opening the night and sure to set the atmosphere for a great show is Skee-Town Stylee. Mixing the sounds of classic reggae and modern day dub, this band creates the perfect blend of Long-Beach-meets-Midwest sound. Since 2009, Skee-Town Stylee has been drawing crounds, young and old, to witness their interesting twist on a classic sound all the while creating the beautiful grooves of summer. According to this 3-piece musical set, they take the sounds of the lakeshore and put a spin on them uniquely creating what they hope to be the most individualized music on this side of the water. Headlining this event is Mustard Plug; a band that has their roots dug well deep into the 1990's and fails to bring nothing less than originality. Mustard Plug started out in the punk clubs, basements and dive bars of the Midwest, playing punk influenced ska music during a time most people in the U.S. had never even heard of ska. They clung to a DIY work ethic that had been ingrained in them from growing up in the 1980's hardcore punk scene and applied it to everything they'd do for the next 20 years. They released their first cassette tape themselves (1992's Skapocalypse Now!), and played constantly to earn enough money to record their first cd. 1994's Big Daddy Mulititude was released on legendary NYC label Moon Records and with their new found national distribution and exposure, the band climbed into their van and performed their music to new fans across North America.
