This evening will also include "Music for Horizon Lines", music for percussion quartet by Chris Sies with visual accompaniment created by John Mike-Reed
Chris Sies is a percussionist and composer currently living in Waco, TX. With a deep love for heavy metal and noise music at an early age, Chris started making his own music as a platform for necessary expression of this musical upbringing, combining his formal performance studies with his informal compositional experiments. Chris seeks to create visceral sonic experiences through the integration of percussion and live electronics that may draw listeners into an open state of mind for reflection, in hopes of healing. Sies music lives at the crossroads of the academic avante garde and DIY metal and power electronic genres. Presented at Austins North Door by COTFG, Chris Sies will be performing his four-movement work for percussion and electronics entitled Music For Horizon Lines. A meditative work in its nature, Music for Horizon Lines focuses on the process of healing, taking the listener on a sonic journey through a multitude of textures, from the heart pounding chaos of drums and distortion, through the sweet radiance of vibraphone drones, and voices. Sies will be joined by additional percussionists Mason Lane, Ian Houston, Daniel Strange, and David Newton for the occasion.
Chris Sies is a percussionist and composer originally from Manchester, Maryland. A diverse performer with "virtuoso flair" (Detroit Free Press), Chris has appeared with the United States Navy Band, New Music Detroit, The National Arab Orchestra, The Black Earth Ensemble, My Brightest Diamond, and the experimental powerhouse," So Percussion. http://www.chrissiesmusic.com/about/
Thor & Friends ensemble has three core members, Thor, Peggy Ghorbani and Sarah Goat Gautier with its line-up expanding and contracting with the flux of compositional and improvisational contexts. The range of tonal color depends on what instrumentalists are present or absent from the process at any given time.
