Tunes, Tricks, and Other Kicks
Magician Joey Pipia and singer/songwriter Phina Pipia will share a bill in the upcoming Tunes, Tricks, and Other Kicks, entertaining with original magic and music. The show will play for one night only, Saturday, March 2nd, 8:00 pm at The Chameleon Theater.
The magician and singer will alternate close up magic effects with whimsical songs, weaving an intimate journey of ideas and revelations. The show is a celebration of illusion, music, and new ideas. The two performers complement each other, both specializing in delight and intrigue. Although the father daughter team frequently works side by side, this will be the first time in over a decade that they will share an entire performance. "Joey Pipia is a master showman," said Yes! Magazine editor, Fran Korten, after seeing Joey's Magic Chamber in Seattle. Magician Joey Pipia is a regular performer at Seattle's international comedy and variety Moisture Festival and is a veteran of The New Old Time Chautauqua. His close up show, The Magic Chamber, held a year long, sold-out run in Port Townsend, as well as appearing at Intiman Theatre in Seattle. His stage show, Delusions of Grandeur, has appeared at The Center House Theater in Seattle, and is currently touring the Northwest. The New York Times called Phina Pipia, "Terrific, and mesmerizing." She co-founded the performance group Generation Goat Rocket in 2009 in New York City with Sophie Pipia, presenting original musicals at The Horse Trade Theaters in lower Manhattan. She performed with The Julian Barnett Project in Super Natural, commissioned by NYC's Joyce Soho, and holds a BFA in dance performance from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College. Her music has appeared in Crook of My Dreams, Goat Rocket & Co., and Cowboy Love Song After Watching A Western. "I like to leave the listener surprised, amazed, and to suspend their disbelief," says Phina, adding, "my dad's magic is a form of visual music, and each of my songs is intended as a small magic trick." "For us, the show is a chance to literally do our favorite things, share our newest ideas, and invite audiences to be a part of what we have created. We hope to inspire others to do exactly what it is they love to do, no more, no less," says Joey.
Tickets are $12, available online at brownpapertickets.com, or by calling 360-774-2202. Tickets will also be available at the door.
