--------------------------------------- about MIXTAPES: Mixtapes hails from Cincinnati, Ohio and formed in 2010. After some rough times in their personal lives Ryan Rockwell and Maura Weaver started writing songs together for fun with the idea to make a record and play some local shows. They recorded their debut album "Maps" and released it for free on Death To False Hope Records in early 2010. Since then they have consistently released music (48 songs in the past year and a half) and toured any and everywhere they can. They released two 7 inches and one LP on Animal Style Records, a split with Direct Hit! on Kind Of Like Records, and multiple free EP's. Now with their signing to No Sleep the band is starting to record it's first official full length album. People can surely expect the band's sarcastic sense of humor, lots of shit talking, and a ton of songs and touring. Mixtapes just wants to be your friend.
About the recent signing, Mixtapes member Ryan Rockwell says, "We are really excited to be signing to No Sleep Records and making our first full length, we are currently in the studio and making magic. We are excited to be spreading the lyrics of Cam'ron, good fashion techniques, and also the opportunity to make friends of many races, nationalities, and even different musical taste (maybe). We are recording just over 20 songs and can't wait to see what makes the album. As for the sound it sounds pretty much what we sound like, although less acoustic."
No Sleep label owner Chris Hansen adds, "I am beyond stoked to bring Mixtapes to the No Sleep family, I've been a friend and fan of theirs for a while now so needless to say they are a great new addition to the family."
Mixtapes' debut album is being recorded by Eric Tuffendsam at Moonlight Studios in Cincinnati Ohio and set for release in Spring 2012. "This record is mostly just a culmination of all the things that have happened to us over the past few years," says Rockwell, "it's a mixture of songs dealing with losses, death and hurtful situations, and also a thank you letter to those people who have been here to make life easier. We are recording 21 songs and going to use the best ones for the record."
