Almshouse and Kicking Down Doors
ALMSHOUSE
Almshouse plays original americana-rock created by Irene Lambrou (vox), Troy Schoenmeier (guitars), Ken Belli (bass) & Tony Winkler (guitars). Maybe it reminds you of Fleetwood Mac or k.d. lang or Sheryl Crow or 70s Linda Ronstadt. Their 2016 release Bitter Thing is long in experience and deep in emotion, with songs that cycle through cynicism, passion, solitude, beauty & betrayal. As a full band, which sometimes swells to as many as seven people, they've performed their own songs plus carefully curated covers at World Cafe Live, Puck Live, Bloktoberfest & Northern Liberties Music Fest, to name a few. In smaller unplugged configurations, Almshouse played Philly FolkFest, and opened for Lee Roy Parnell downstairs at World Cafe Live. Recently, Almshouse is exploring stripped-down acoustic versions of their tunes, and this new format showcases thoughtful lyrics, Irene's sultry "burnished alto" voice, and some very handsome fretwork by Troy, Ken & Tony.

KICKING DOWN DOORS
Kicking Down Doors sprung out of the original music composed by Autumn Walden and Ernie Tokay.  At the center are compelling lyrics by Autumn and the harmonic backdrop of Ernie Tokay.  In many ways, Philly-area country folk combo Kicking Down Doors got together by accident.Singer-lyricist Autumn Walden came across singer-guitarist Ernie Tokay at his Little Spiders Have Big Dreams Studio in Chester County; before theyd even known each other for a day, theyd already written a song together. The two musicians clicked so readily and had such a productive streak of writing music together that the project quickly became a functioning band.  John Vettese, The Key Sessions, WXPN 88.5 FM. Once we acquired a dozen songs or so, we decided to take our new project out to the Philadelphia Folk Festival in 2013 to see how people would respond to our live music. We found that people really enjoyed our songs, and even more so, we got a real charge out of playing our original material!   We don't feel constrained by genre. And many times, we dont know how a song or project is going to come out until we complete it. We can produce a folk song, a blues tune, or a rocking number equally well as the mood calls for, and thats truly exciting!
