Mike Edel
Mike Edel's debut album 'The Last Of Our Mountains' was released independently in early 2011. The album, produced by Winston Hauschild (Hannah Georgas, Hey Ocean), received much critical acclaim with the Calgary Herald calling it, "a delicately catchy record that rolls through it's 8 tracks as freshly and easily as wind across the harvest." With his debut The Last Of Our Mountains, Edel has learned that home, love and youthfulness are neither innocent nor simple. Born in rural Alberta, his youth was spent between rocky mountains and vast wheat fields. These landscapes shaped the album; a sharp and urgent collection of 8 songs that give way to the adventurous, compassionate and delicate. Since relocating to Victoria, Edel has grown to be one of the city's best singer/songwriters. For more information on Mike Edel and for the most up-to-date tour dates, please visit www.mikeedel.com.
Young Pacific
Clever, chameleonic, catchy and complex: so are a few ways to describe Young Pacific's distinct and exciting fusion of musical influences ranging from classic to contemporary, and everywhere in between.
Formed in Vancouver in 2009, Young Pacific had overwhelming success early on, leading to a hectic schedule of performances making stops at some of Vancouver's most popular live music venues sharing the stage with artists such as Guilty About Girls and The Zolas. After playing more shows in two months than many bands do in half a year, Young Pacific headed into the studio with producer Tom Dobrzanski (Said The Whale, We Are The City) which resulted in their eponymous debut, an EP of four of their finest songs. Their 2nd EP, recorded by producer George Knuff (41st & Home) and released in May 2012, saw them make an ambitious and exciting leap in style & structure.
Devin Miller's guitar and Djavin Bowen's keys melt together into a restless wash of texture and atmosphere; an electro-acoustic unity in constant search for the lost chord. With Mike Noble's melodic, driving bass lines and Brock Wiederick's powerful , precise drumming leading the charge, Young Pacific takes you down the shape-shifting trails of psychedelia and prog, keeps you warm with intimate and harmonious tales from the familiar fires of folk, surprises you with fervent dynamics, and makes you smile all at the end of it with a heavy dollop of unadulterated pop. The result is a soundtrack to go hand-in-hand with the changing world as all humans feel it: unpredictable and familiar, helpless and exhilarating, relentless and comforting, energetic and evolving.
Hailing from the mists of the Pacific Northwest, Young Pacific is a celebration of nature. A celebration of time, youth, and the beloved yarns of yesteryear. And the purpose of the universe set aside, a celebration of music.
Headwater
we're a band from Vancouver, BC. We play a lot of stringed instruments. Guitar, mandolin, banjo, steel guitar, bass also we hang out with drummers who play with us.
We like to sing harmonies together.
Headwater started out in the early 2000s when Jonas and Matt left their rock 'n roll days behind to play acoustic music. We started writing tunes that we thought people would sing along to, move their bodies to, and really enjoy. Tim and Pat (steel and bass) joined a couple of years later we love each other.
Our new album PUSH comes out on May 4th.
It is a departure from the roots/folk stylings we're known for, into some decidedly "pop" territory. We wrote some tunes that just called for really carefully crafted production, and I, personally, think we hit the nail on the head. We've moved steel guitar, mandolin and banjo into some really neat textural roles using them almost like synth's. At the heart of the new sound are great vocal harmonies, seriously catchy choruses and some tasty grooves. Nods of the head to Tom Petty and Peter Gabriel. And Katy Perry. And Rick Rubin.
We released two albums My Old Friend (2006) and Lay You Down (2009). We toured Canada and Europe extensively playing the folk circuit. Hundreds of great shows later, we really have a musical fellowship that makes us all happy. Putting all of us together on stage man, it's what makes our lives so awesome.
Experimentation, improvisation, wild jam-outs, furniture as percussion, howling, dancing that's what fuels our live sets.
So what we've done over the past year is bring back our rock roots. Fueled the fires. Plugged in. Electrified. We debuted the new sound at the Atlin Arts and Music Festival in July 2011 it's our favourite festival ever. The results were staggering.
We're all very excited to launch PUSH out into the world on May 4th. Please enjoy!
