Speakeasy Dollhouse: The Girl Who Handcuffed Houdini (Immersive Theater)
Transporting audiences to 1926, the year Harry Houdini died, Speakeasy Dollhouse unravels the mystery of Houdinis untimely death. Follow private investigator Minky Woodcock, played by burlesque star, Pearls Daily, on her first case, going undercover behind the scenes of Houdinis stage show. The Girl Who Handcuffed Houdini is a Prohibition-era mystery with a sinister twist!
This immersive play is based off a comic book series written and illustrated by acclaimed artist, author, director, and playwright Cynthia von Buhler.
The Speakeasy Dollhouse experience begins with a series of exclusive emails featuring actual historical news articles, court documents, and autopsy reports. Audience members are instructed to show up dressed for a 1920s night on the town at a secret entryway and must speak a password to be allowed in. Each audience member is met by a fortune teller who reads their palm and assigns them a role for the nights adventure, which includes the chance to attend a Houdini performance in a gorgeous theater, take part in a séance in a Victorian mansion, sip hooch in a speakeasy, watch the magician rehearse backstage and witness his death.
Replete with incredible magic tricks and authentic recreations of spiritualist demonstrations, the production offers up a meticulously detailed slice of Houdini history.
The twenties was a time when freedom roared. Women finally won the right to vote. They took jobs during the war, and decided to keep them after the troops came home. Ladies drank booze, bobbed their hair and threw away their corsets. Gender roles were becoming more fluid. Liquor was illegal, but folks drank more than ever. Speakeasy Dollhouse revels in this era. Join Minky and be transported into a time capsule where you can live fully in her world.
Every ticket includes a copy of an artist edition hardcover Graphic Novel signed by Cynthia von Buhler.
