Henry David Thoreau: Surveyor of the Soul tells the story of Thoreau in his time and the story of the impact Thoreaus writings and lifestyle have in our time addressing these issues in his writings. July 12, 2017 marked the Bicentennial of Thoreaus birth.
Made over the course of 13 years, Surveyor of the Soul, features scholars, writers, activists, Penobscots, students in the Walden Project high school program in Vermont, and everyday visitors to Walden Pond. All discuss their passion for Thoreau, his legacy, and the impact his writings have on our time. These interviews were filmed on location in all four seasons at the original site of Thoreaus cabin on Walden Pond where he was inspired to write his book, Walden and at other places where Thoreau traveled: the Maine woods and Katahdin (with interviews with Penobscot descendants of Thoreaus guides), Cape Cod, and Minnesota, where Thoreau made his last and longest excursion from his beloved Concord, MA.
