Safety Skills and Self-Defense for Kids K-2
Keep the magic of childhood safe in this friendly and age appropriate class for children grades K-2. In this parent-child class a single 90 minute session works with young attention spans. In the first segment, we will role-play in a non-threatening environment some of the common approaches used by perpetrators who target children. Children will practice the 'five fingers' approach: think, yell, get free, run and tell. In the second part, the adults will look at tactics that child predators use to gain access to children through parents and the community. Adults will also learn how to frame the discussion with their children so they can continue practicing people safety skills at home. Specific areas of focus include: - Trusted adults - Checking in with adults - Use voice as a safety tool - Move away from possible problems - Get help from busy adults - and persist - Easy-to-learn physical techniques - Listening to "uh-oh" feelings Families will receive valuable reference materials to take home.
