The Play's The Thing
Despite the fact that anything can happen in an improvised scene, they can start to feel the same after a while. In order to increase our awareness of what's possible on stage, we will take inspiration from short, published plays. In this workshop, we will read and "perform" a collection of 10-minute plays. We will talk about the ways in which the author kept the scene interesting and identify moves or styles we might not see very often in improvised scenes. We will then perform improvised scenes in the styles of the plays we just read.
Takeaway: Students will learn techniques to sustain scenes and will be introduced to improvising in less common theatrical styles.
