Feminism in Popular Culture
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Wonder Woman, Beyonce, The Handmaid's Tale, Rey from Star Wars, Hunger Games, Amy Schumer, Kamala Khan, Ava Duvernay, Rhianna...these are stories, characters and performers. They communicate a message to the general public about what it means to be female in todays day and age. Feminists can be funny, sassy, multi-talented, strong and loud. Join us for a discussion about how popular culture highlights all the ways that the feminist-minded among us are championing gender equity, racial justice, and social liberation.
Speakers include: Gloria-Jean Masciarotte, RISD and Providence College Jess Brown, Entertainer, Artist and Activist Lori Landay, Berklee College of Music
Event includes a cash bar and light bites.
COME DRESSED AS YOUR FAVORITE POP CULTURE ICON! There will be prizes for best costumes.
