Food and Film: Monthly Screening Series- APRIL 2018
Get inside film each month when Arthouse:A Social Kitchen, the Gary International Black Film Festival and Chicago's Black Cinema House come together to bring critical conversation, culinary adventure and powerful films to the center stage in our monthly film series. Each month come savor provocative independent films paired with small bites from Arthouse:A Social Kitchen's emerging chefs.
Marking the second documentary from woman filmmaker C. Fitz, JEWEL'S CATCH ONE explores the legacy of Americas oldest Black-owned disco club as well as the life of businesswoman and activist, Jewel Thais-Williams, who provided safe spaces for LGBTQ, Black and AIDS impacted communities in Los Angeles for four decades. Exclusive interviews with Sharon Stone, Thelma Houston, Evelyn "Champagne" King, Madonna, Sandra Bernhard, Thea Austin, Jenifer Lewis, Representative Maxine Waters and Bonnie Pointer provide testimony in this electric and historically important film narrated by CCH Pounder.
Screenings feature post screening discussion, a no host bar, and delightful culinary bites created by chef Lamar Moore (Currency Exchange Cafe) to compliment the film's theme.
