FUNeral
Patricks Cabaret presents FUNeral Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 7:30pm at LUSH - 990 Central Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413
Just as Pride month kicks into gear, Patricks Cabaret invites supporters, artists, and members of the community to celebrate at the sunset of the organization with a FUNeral (like a funeral, but FUNNER!). The special event will include eulogistic performances by artists spanning Patricks Cabarets history, FUN interpretations of traditional funeral rituals, and a dance party. Attendees are invited to wear their funeral finest for an evening of reflection, love, and celebration, while coming together to enjoy the sunset. A ticketed performance will run from 7:30-9:00pm, followed by a dance party 9:00pm-12:00am that is free and open to the public.
Featuring performances by... Danielle Daniel Howard Lieberman Amy Salloway Iris Oconnel House of Larva Gabriela Santiago Kat Purcell
And dance party DJs DJ Lisa Lisa Simpson DJ Plunging Necklines
Storytellers Danielle Daniel, Howard Lieberman, and Amy Salloway, all longtime participants with Patricks Cabaret, will reflect on their time with the organization and the process of saying goodbye in their signature styles. Drag artist Iris Oconnel and drag co-operative House of Larva both channel their alter egos into songs that bid farewell Iris with a sweet and sincere nod to Judy Garland, and House of Larva with their bombastic embrace of camp. Speculative fiction writer Gabriela Santiago will present "Who Killed Patrick's Cabaret?," an absurdist, audience-participatory murder mystery dinner theater performance, and Kat Purcell unites a community of collaborators to stage a piece using umbrellas to suggest a transformation of grief to acceptance. The night will cap with a dance party featuring underground queer dance party veterans DJ Lisa Lisa Simpson (Jared Maire) and DJ Plunging Necklines (Bethany Hart).
The FUNeral for Patricks Cabaret is hosted and planned by its host committee, or FUNeral Directors: Scott Artley, Alison Bergblom Johnson, Tom Cassidy, Lizzette Chapa, Renee Copeland, Chandler Daily, Amy Danielson, Peter Foster, Adrienne Kleinman, Mollie Lacy, Howard Lieberman, AP Looze, Juliette Myers, Paul Nemeths, Jon Skaalen, and Harry Waters Jr.
Become a Legacy Donor Patricks Cabaret has a goal to raise $11,000 by the end of June to sunset with the greatest impact. This fundraising goal, representing what the organization would have raised from individuals during any other season, supports the full season and all the ways the legacy will move forward. If fundraising exceeds our organizations needs, we will be able to re-grant the balance to mission-aligned organizations who have agreed to take on Patricks Cabarets programming and continue on the legacy, such as 20% Theater, which has agreed to adopt our annual event Controlled Burn: queer performance for a world on fire that each year features 18 acts of new, radical queer performance.
Donors who make a gift of any amount are considered Legacy Donors. Learn more about becoming one of the Cabarets Legacy Donors by visiting patrickscabaret.org/news/be-part-legacy-patricks-cabaret, and making a gift online at givemn.org/organization/patricks-cabaret.
Printed copies of the organizations just-published retrospective book Out on the Edge: three decades of Patricks Cabaret will be available at the FUNeral. A sneak peek of the book is available at patrickscabaret.org/sneak-peek-our-legacy-book-donate-may-1st-be-included.
