With roots in North Texas, Jess Johnson grew up steeped in gospel music and emulating the classic lilt of heartbroken Western divas. But it was the soul crooning of Etta James and the angst of modern pop icons like Fiona Apple that illuminated her songwriting and made her voice soar. Jess joined Forte Vocal Studios in 2002, recorded her first demo, and moved to Nashville to study music business at Belmont University.
As a member of the Belmont Songwriters Association, Jess worked with commercial songwriter Rick Beresford, Gotee Records, and Tin Pan South to hone her craft. You can now catch her performances in local Madison venues, where youll get a feel for the love in her heart and the chip on her shoulder. Keep an eye out for new music from her in late 2018.
